This film was shot just before the old Black Forest Gliderport near Colorado Spring closed. It was filmed in 16mm film and was lost for many years until somebody digitized it. Especially interesting for WSPA since it shows a woman in glider training

I got some responses to my posting of the old Black Forest film.

Very fun to watch! It brings back so many memories!
Thanks for sharing it!

I tried to reply to your WSPA forum post but it will not let me register.

So, here is some information. Your really stirred my earliest
childhood memories.

My very first glider flight was in 1968 with my father Winfried in a
Schweizer 2-32 at this airport (I was six years old), and it is logged
in my first glider log book from Black Forest Gliderport which he had
given to me for Christmas. The family spent several vacations here
staying in the little "Chalet" motel that you see in one of the scenes
in front of Pikes Peak.

I still remember the smell of smoking camphor for the barograph foil.
Mimi in the kitchen. David Johnson with his 60's style glasses. How
cold it was sometimes in the winter, with the smell of sage and pine
everywhere. The vast views of the Front Range. Driving up Pikes Peak.
Santa's Village was on the way to the Peak. Garden of the Gods. Air
Force Academy.

One time someone accidentally ran over a jackrabbit on the drive into
the airport. Mimi skinned it and cooked it for everyone.

Winfried earned his FAI diamond altitude badge here climbing to 30,000
feet in the Pikes Peak wave in his LS-1b in 1968.

This gliderport was THE place to be in the 1960's and 1970's in the
soaring scene. Truely a special place.

A nice touch in the film with the Joni Mitchell song "Both Sides Now"
where she sings "I really don't know clouds at all". It was Judy Collins who sang that song.

And the "Chalet" was called the Lennie Inn.

Thank you for sharing this. It is special for us.
